January 12, 2009ok, so after my last time out in the mud, after dropping the front end into deeper than expected hole, not only did i throw a code for a cylinder misfire (which hopefully is fixed with a plug change and now as i type this out waiting for the comp to reset) my motor now sounds like a friggin freight train, i.e. its very loud at the front end and sounds like the fan is ready to take off.....not sure if i killed the clutch fan after the dunk in muddy water **or** could it be just caked with dirt and just needs a cleaning....anyhow.... here''''s my thought: i know there''''s a select few of us here, but, we all go wheelin and we''''ve all blasted a hole at one time **or** another, how could we go about designing some type of splash guard at the bottom end of the motor to keep water from spraying topside? **or** is there already something like this on the market? Whadyall think is possible to get the engine more waterproof, aside from caulking the hell outta the plug boots and electrical connections and running a snorkel?

January 12, 2009obviously, there''s a ton of skid plates on the market, but i was thinking of a lighter weight material, say like mud flap grade *or* something along the lines of those bed liner mats......
and of course removable for maintenance purposes

January 12, 2009Yeah a light weight rubber material that will just slide up under a-arms/whole front end when hitting deep mud and stuff, look on youtube there are some videos of trucks with them who do the mud races. You could get some dialectic (sp?) grease for around distributor and any important connections.

January 12, 2009Yikes man sound like you got some water up in there and *****d stuff up. Ive been lucky so far I just took out my alt one time in water. Hmm... could get creative and find some hard rubber cut to fit panels *or* even custom some sheet metal splash guards *or* something. Strange your fan is stuck on, maybe got some mud grit in there and the clutch wont release.

January 18, 2009Damn I dumb...I''v been working on my old 350 on my blazer too long....distributor!!! haha yeah well same thing just water proof everything that''s important.
February 9, 2009spray the distributor with WD40. (W ater D isplacment)
That is what it was originaly intended for.
the only down side to MUDD preping a daily driver is that it stops alot of the natural air flow through the engine compartment and might cause it to over heat.
