I was told that I figured my truck is 6,000lbs I would need a 12k winch; I was also told I could get a 9k winch and use snatch block method and not burn the motor up; I was just wondering if there was any other good companies for winches besides Warn and Mile marker that are any good and how could I mount the winch on my truck what are options that I could have? wouldnt be a bad idea to get a 12,000lb winch i got a 9000 warn and had it on a 6000lb suburban and there was a few times where it wouldnt pull me out when i was on the axles.they sell winchs that slide into hitch recievers. thats the set up i got where you can move it front to back of the truck and take it off when not in use. but i dont know if you can use 12,000lb winches with those multimount setups.
and the only other winch name i can think of is ramsey. or you can go with some harbor freight junk but you usually get what you pay for.

i say go with a warn but ramseys are good too! if you run the winch to the ankor point and back to the truck it will double the pulling power. it doesnt really double the power, its hard to explain. but as far as mounting it you can put a warn brush guard on your truck that is meant for mounting the winch to, you can replace you front bumper with a All-Pro or ARB winch bumper, or you can have a front towing package put on the front with a winch plate hook up(i think that is what abig84 is talking about)!!March 21, 2007
Oh thanks; I forgot to mention. I have a very tight budget hahaMarch 21, 2007
I have had good luck with Superwinch.March 21, 2007
well winches and the thing to mount it to aint gona be cheep....i say birthday and christmas!!!March 22, 2007
Would your parents spend $1,100 for a winch for your birthday or christmas? I don't think so haha; I have to buy my stuff.. now i'm in a delima I'm thinking about getting subs instead of the winch; then get a winch and when my truck needs new tires see if my dad will give me some money and I can pay the difference..March 29, 2007
Actually the harbor freight winches are a mile marker except they use a different soleinoid. There is even a fix on the web for it. Just what I have seen and Heard. Personally still doesnt change my opinion of them though.March 30, 2007
warn (paying for a name) they are pretty equal tomile marker (some will disagree) (we all have our own opinion)
ramsey
and superwinch.
you can buy one from costco too, I hear they are good and inexpensive.

Costco is similar to Sams club. You have to be a member. For a heavy ass truck like that , go with the 12K.
