What NOT to do
October 9, 2003Yeah thats a good ? wut not to do when off roading? lol it seems kind of funny but its a good question.
October 9, 2003Rule #1 dont go by yourself. We all have done it and we all know better, went for a sat 1hr run got back monday afternoon I know!
October 26, 2003don't drive into marshes, ditches, and fences. lol no but always have some one to pull you out and to learn your and more importantly your trucks limits
October 26, 2003Keep a can of WD-40 on you. After crossing a deep mud hole, shoot some WD-40 in under your distributor cap!
Another good idea is to extend the axle breather lines to some place high. Inside the vehichle if possible...
January 30, 2004One thing that can't be stressed enough would be to know your limits. Know what your vehicle can and can not do. Also, when driving trails, if you know your vehicle won't bottom out, then just stick with the basic lines on the trail, like the previous tread marks. But if you're vehicle is stock height and you feel that you might bottom out, pick the highest line, and put your tire on it. Like the biggest rock, or log, or whatever, that way it won't hit anything hanging down in the middle of your truck like your dif. or something.
February 8, 2004Few things I have learned.
1) try to Off-Road with a buddy, by this I mean at least 2 trucks, or in an area where there is likely to be more than just you and the squirrels. makes gettting unstuck easier when someone else is around. Also makes it easier to run out for parts if there is a auto-store within reasonable distance (walking sux).
2) Leave drifting on hillside trails to shortbeds and buggies. (see my gallery for what happens when drifting ina longbed in 2wd).
3)tow straps and tools ARE A MUST! Water is helpful too (to drink or fill a newly patched radiator.
4)Seatbelts are good. oh yes, seatbelts are good.
5)if in an area with other trucks, watch how they handle obstacles before chargin in. I do this every time I go out and want to play. Like at Azusa Canyon, CA, the conditions always change. I watch the fun spots (mud holes, hill climbs, pivots, crossongs.) Then I can judge how my truck and skill should tackle the obstacle.
6) If an H2 can do it, so can almost any truck.
7) do not let people knock your ride. The knockers are the guys in the f250's or 2500HD's, quad cab, 8 inch suspension lift, 6 inch body lift, 44" MT's, chrome all around, fabtech parts every where, with 2wd and claen undercarriages. I get knocked for my stock toy 4x, until I pull a raised bubrban out of the muck, where other 'bigger' trucks have failed. I do not let it bother me anymore. In fact I have only been pulled out 2x myseld, once by another TOYota, and once by a flatbed wrecker.
more ramblings latter, just be aware, and don't be stupid offroad.
February 11, 2004Well all the tips are good but how do i know wut my trucks limits are? i havent takin it threw anything deep yet. Just a few mud holes about a foot deep with water on top. I'm afriad to go in somthing to deep and get stuck. I wouldnt be scared of getting stuck if i had another truck there. None of my friends have 4x4 trucks so they dont go with me off roading. All my other buddies that have 4x4 trucks dont have cell phones and are never home to go wheelin with me, my dad has a 4x4 truck but he doesnt want to get his ride dirty or sumthin???? I say screw it i think it looks better covered in mud!!!!!Wut would be some good tools or advise about wheelin bye yourself?
February 11, 2004Oh yeah i have a 1990 Ford Ranger 4x4 2.9L V6 w/ 3" lift, 31" BFG Mud Teraines (BRAND NEW) . Wut kind of stuff you think i could go threw, Maybe i need some self confidence about the stuff i can go threw. Most stuff i wont go threw cuz i dont think i could make it and my buddies think i'm a sissy cuz i wount go threw it. But.....Thats when i had the All-Teraines. You guys think the mud teraines will be allot better and i will be able to go threw more stuff?
February 11, 2004we'll 4 wheel sometime and then you dont have to worryt about gettin stuck ,ill put it right out.plus getting stuck is fun!!!in a way
