May 10, 2011Turns out I`ve got a big problem with my winch, it doesn`t fit in my bumper! I`m getting the itch to wheel so I`m trying to get some things done, figured bolting the winch on wouldn`t be too hard. Turns out it`s too big. The winch hits on one of the main tubes which won`t allow it to sit in a place where i can use all four bolts. Ill hafta get some pictures, but I`m either gonna hafta modify the bumper or build a new one. If I go that route I want to add a couple of recovery shackles. Any opinions?

May 11, 2011What about mounting it on a reciever setup? Post a photo of your current bumper. you know we will provide tons of ideas for you to choose from.
May 11, 2011you`ll have to send the winch to me for modifications.
May 11, 2011How long ya think your gonna be needin it george? Didnt get real good pictures, took`em while i was headin out the door to go to work.
Hopfully you can kinda see the point of contact and where the winch mount hangs over the edge of the mounting plate.
How the winch sits in the bumper.
May 11, 2011I found this bumper that i really like. Pretty fancy for a trail only rig though.
I know it says it fits a jeep, if i hafta build one, i like this style.
May 11, 2011why modify the winch? why not just cut out the area where it hits the bumper and weld a flat plate back in to keep the structural itegrity of the bumper? That is my
May 12, 2011Thought George was jus playin, I`m not gonna modify the winch. Sorry george! Keeping my bumper strong is the main thing because of the winch (12,000 lb pull)and that is one of the main tubes of the bumper. My biggest problem though is that I don`t have a welder. I do like the reciever mount idea, that way i could use the winch on my f350 as well.
May 14, 2011If we were closer i would lend you my MIG welder. 1800 miles is a bit far though.
May 14, 2011Well dang it anyway! That would be awesome lol
May 14, 2011it would not take me more than a day to modify the bumper to accept the winch and still maintain the structual integrity of the bumper.
May 15, 2011I bet it wouldn`t, but it`d take me longer to get there and back than for you to do the work!
May 15, 2011true, I have a buddy that lives in Peoria. Last time i visited him it took me 18 hours just to get to his house, from mine in Austin.
