August 12, 2011sorry to be one to wine all the time, but this situation is proof that even with a referal you can still get hosed!!!!
during the motor tear down we discovered that the crank and jurnal bearings were trashed. (result of improper machine work on the crank.) So after $3000.00 worth of machine work, all that was usable was the cylinder boreing. due to this complete failure. i am going to look into a stroker kit (347ci). this way i am not chasing any further problems from the old work.
seams like every problem up to this point has been a result of bad/pore machine work. keep you guys up to date as new parts come in.
August 12, 2011Man, what a nightmare... Cant wait for you get it back together, sounds like its going to be meaner than ever!
August 12, 2011ahh man, that sucks, keep us posted on how it turns out for ya! sounds like its gonna be arse kicking when its done
August 12, 2011I hope so. with the extensive head porting and stroking it.
we are guessing the new out put to be 375 to 400 hp. only a guess so far.
the bad part is you just can trust anyone but your self to do good work any more. what happened to self pride?????????
seams like businesses have created a industry of trash products. quantity over quality.
My only hope is that my wife does not kick me out over this (other woman as she calls my trucks)
all of my past projects have been funded by the shop or side businesses.
i do not have those any more, so she see`s every peny that goes into the truck.
August 12, 2011Okay here are some positive items from the motor rebuild.
Ported heads with new stainless valves, and double valve springs.
From this photo you can see the finished result of the exhaust porting.
August 12, 2011Here are some photos of the powder coated intake. I only coated the top half. (did not think the bottom half was needed.) Since these photos were taken i have finished sanding all the powder coating off the fins and words on the intake. I will update the photos soon.
August 13, 2011That intake is nice, you always seem to do good quality work, keep it up!
August 29, 2011okay finished sanding the powder coat off. i think this will give it the snap/pop it needed.
What do you guys think.
I am still on the fence about powder coating the lower half.
What do you think?
July 26, 2014Well have some new uodates.
Given the drastic economic down turn, I had to switch directions.
I acquired a 97 cougar. It has a 5.0 HO factory roller motor in it.
For now I am going to do a (simple transplant) motor swap.
My hopes are to at least get the truck driveable.
As funds come available down the road, I will rebuild the other motor.
August 6, 2014Sounds like me and my explorer, even if it`s not exactly how I want it, I want to be able to use it.
6 months agoJust an update for the old b kack truck.
Found me a H.O. 302 out of a 92 cougar.
Had it bored 30 over, and saving up for 347 striker rotating assembly.
Taking my time this time.
Not going to make the same mistakes again.
